On Monday, July 14, Don Bosco Youth Education for All (DBYEA) distributed school supplies— including notebooks, pens, math kits, and more—to 300 children from underprivileged families in Mukura Sector. The initiative aims to foster a love of learning and help keep students in school by reducing barriers such as lack of basic study materials.
The local leaders in Mukura Sector loudly recognized and praised the impactful contributions of Don Bosco Youth Education for All (DBYEA) in supporting vulnerable youth communities in the area.
“This initiative is a blessing to our youth in Mukura,” said Manishimwe Niyonzima, Education Officer in Mukura Sector. “Since the establishment of Don Bosco Youth Centre in Kabuga–Sahera, we’ve seen a significant drop in school dropout rates. Bringing children together through play, learning, and christian values helps them stay in school.” He added that the centre’s efforts have been instrumental in supplying essential school materials to financially struggling families.
Furthermore, the beneficiaries also received shoes and additional school supplies, ensuring comprehensive support for their educational needs.
Fr. Thierry Bashemezimana, director of the Don Bosco Youth Centre at Sahera, emphasized the centre’s broader mission. “Since its founding, the centre has actively promoted drug prevention, hygiene, education, and recreation,” he noted. Community interest has grown steadily as the number of youth attending continues to increase. The centre also advocates for additional resources to support more children in need.
On behalf of the DBYEA leadership, Mr. Dusabimana Felicien encouraged young people to cherish education and adopt values such as cleanliness and respect. He also urged parents to actively engage in their children’s schooling and assured that DBYEA will continue advocating for access to education for economically disadvantaged youth.
Beyond education, DBYEA remains committed to advancing human rights—including children’s rights—promoting sports, culture, unity among Rwandans, and environmental stewardship. Their efforts support Rwanda’s national goals of sustainable development and well-being.
