Empowering Youth Through Tools: DBYEA Distributes Starter Kits to Vocational Graduates at Don Bosco Muhazi TVET School

On July 8, 2025, Don Bosco Youth Education for All (DBYEA), in collaboration with the Salesians of Don Bosco in the Africa Great Lakes (AGL) Province, proudly celebrated the distribution of starter toolkits to 20 best-performing graduates from Don Bosco Muhazi TVET School. This milestone event marked a new beginning for young professionals ready to enter the workforce with confidence and dignity. The same activity was previously organized and conducted for the graduates from other TVET schools including Gatenga TSS in Kigali and will be extended to Rango TVET in Huye district.

These graduates, who successfully completed their vocational training in tailoring and construction, were awarded professional toolkits that will support them in launching their careers. Tailoring graduates received sewing machines, scisors and accessories, while those trained in construction were equipped with essential building tools (trowel, level, hammer, helmet, coveralls, measuring tape and gloves).

This empowering initiative was made possible through the unwavering support of the Salesian Missions in New Rochelle, whose continued generosity ensures that vulnerable youth in Rwanda have the means to transform their education into employment and self-reliance. Their contribution reflects a deep commitment to Don Bosco’s mission: to form good Christians and upright citizens through education and accompaniment.

Mr. Felicien Dusabimana, representing Fr. Servilien Ufitamahoro for the occasion as part of the AGL Planning and Development Office and Mr. Olivier Dusenge, a consultant currently overseeing DBYEA activities, commended the beneficiaries for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to use their skills not only to improve their own lives but also to contribute positively to their communities.

Sr. Leocadie, the Director of Don Bosco Muhazi TVET School, expressed her gratitude towards Salesian missions and highlighted that these kinds of support initiatives are key to creating long-lasting impact among young people: “When we equip our youth with the right tools and values, we give them a foundation to become self-reliant and responsible leaders in society.”

The event also served as an opportunity to reinforce DBYEA’s ongoing commitment to promoting youth empowerment through practical education and sustainable livelihoods, especially in underserved rural areas. It is a clear demonstration of how partnerships, like that between DBYEA, the AGL Province, and Salesian Missions, are transforming lives one toolkit at a time.
