In a heartfelt initiative to support vulnerable children affected by poverty, Salezjański Wolontariat Misyjny MŁODZI ŚWIATU, in partnership with DON BOSCO YOUTH EDUCATION FOR ALL (DBYEA), is making a meaningful impact on the lives of over 300 children in Sahera.
Poverty continues to cast a shadow over these children’s futures, leaving them exposed to immense hardships. However, despite these challenges, moments of joy and laughter still shine through when they receive even a small measure of comfort and care. The mission of Salezjański Wolontariat is deeply rooted in the belief that every child deserves love, support, and the kindness of those willing to help.
Each weekend and during school holidays, children gather at the Salesian Oratory, where they engage in various activities that foster their development and friendships. However, many of them struggle with poor hygiene, a lack of basic necessities, and food insecurity. For some, the absence of school supplies becomes a barrier to their education.
Despite these difficulties, the dedication of Oratory leaders has allowed these children to participate in recreational and educational activities that bring them happiness and a sense of belonging. Thanks to recent support from Salezjański Wolontariat, essential supplies such as food, hygiene products, and school materials have been distributed, bringing smiles to many young faces.
“It’s challenging to help everyone with limited resources, but seeing the children laugh reminds us why we do this work,” said Father Thierry Bashemezimana, Coordinator of Kabuga Children’s Center in Sahera. “So far, we have been able to assist about 150 children, but the need is much greater, and more than half still require support.”
The management of Kabuga Children’s Center remains committed to doing everything possible to care for these children, making progress step by step within their means. However, as the number of children in need continues to grow, there is a pressing desire to expand the center to provide a safer space with improved hygiene facilities.
With the ongoing support of international partners like Salezjański Wolontariat, there is hope that more children will receive the care they deserve. By nurturing their potential and ensuring they do not lose sight of their dreams, this initiative continues to bring light and hope to the lives of Sahera’s most vulnerable children.
