Answering the Call: DBYEA Extends Vital School Feeding, Tuition, and Supplies Support to Vulnerable Rwandan Students

KIGALI / RUSIZI, Rwanda — Following a surge in urgent appeals from families struggling to keep their children in school, Don Bosco Youth Education for All (DBYEA) has stepped forward to provide comprehensive educational aid to vulnerable youth across Rwanda.

The initiative addresses critical financial barriers that threaten student attendance and academic continuity. By working directly with local educational institutions—including Groupe Scolaire St Jean Baptiste Muramba in the Rusizi District and Groupe Scolaire Ste Marie Reine Nyabitimbo—DBYEA has delivered targeted support designed to keep students nourished, equipped, and enrolled in class.

Comprehensive Educational Relief on the Ground

At G.S. St Jean Baptiste Muramba, DBYEA’s intervention covered a wide spectrum of essential educational needs:

  • School Feeding Assistance: Funding dedicated meal contributions to guarantee that students, including senior secondary candidates and primary pupils like UWANYIRIGIRA Nadia, NIYOMUGENGA Enathe, and NIZERO Happy, receive regular nutrition during the school day.
  • Tuition & School Fee Coverage: Direct payment of mandatory tuition fees (Minervale) for secondary and primary students facing financial hardship, including TUYIZERE Aline, IBISHAKA Julius, KOMEZUSENGE Lidia, BAYITURIKI Germaine, and IGIRANEZA Cedrick.
  • Essential Learning Materials & Uniforms: Provision of required classroom supplies such as paper packages and notebooks, alongside school uniforms, neckties, student identity cards, and dining plates.

Simultaneously, at G.S. Ste Marie Reine Nyabitimbo, DBYEA representatives personally delivered essential books and stationery to young pupils, ensuring that children with special needs and vulnerable backgrounds receive equal access to learning tools.

Voices of Gratitude from Beneficiaries

For students and parents receiving aid, the arrival of school supplies and fee clearance brings immediate relief and renewed hope for the future.

“Before DBYEA stepped in, my family was worried I would be sent home because we couldn’t cover my tuition or feeding fees,” shared a senior secondary student at G.S. St Jean Baptiste Muramba. “Having my school fees covered, along with receiving my uniform, notebooks, and ID card, means I can focus entirely on my studies without fear.”

A parent accompanying a primary pupil at the school expressed similar relief:

“Seeing my child receive new learning materials and knowing that their school meals are secured is an answer to our prayers. DBYEA opened their doors when we had nowhere else to turn.”

A Renewed Commitment to Youth Empowerment

Reflecting on the organization’s ongoing outreach, Father Servilien Ufitamahoro, Director of Don Bosco Youth Education for All, emphasized that educational support is a vital investment in the nation’s human capital.

“When families knock on our doors seeking help, we see not just a financial need, but a young person’s dream at risk of being cut short,” stated Father Servilien Ufitamahoro. “Our goal is to ensure that no capable student is forced out of the classroom due to poverty. By covering tuition, providing daily meals, and supplying essential learning tools, we are giving young people the foundation they need to build self-reliant futures. However, the demand for support continues to grow, and we invite donors, corporate partners, and well-wishers to join us in making education accessible for every child in Rwanda.”

Building Sustainable Futures Together

DBYEA views responding to these individual requests as part of a broader national effort to strengthen Rwanda’s future workforce. The organization continues to seek strategic partnerships with development institutions, foundations, and individuals to sustain scholarships, school feeding programs, technical training, and youth development projects nationwide.
