Don Bosco Kabuga Animators Champion Environmental Education Through Laudato Si Campaign

HUYE, Rwanda – Animators at Don Bosco Kabuga Youth Centre in Huye District, Southern Province, say they are using oratory activities to instill environmental values in children.

Speaking during a Laudato Si campaign at the centre, Eric Nsengimana, representing animators working at Don Bosco Kabuga/Huye, said environmental protection is now part of their daily lessons.

“At this center, we teach the children participating in Oratory activities about environmental management and climate change — including its impacts — as well as the importance of planting trees, given that they provide the air we breathe. We also teach them soil erosion control through the construction of progressive terraces; all these activities go hand-in-hand with lessons on hygiene and good conduct,” Nsengimana said.

He thanked the visiting team for their support and educational materials.

“First and foremost, on behalf of my colleagues, I would like to thank you for visiting us today, for the lessons you shared, and for providing us with educational materials. It is wonderful to have people like you close by — coming to train and teach us — as it shows us that we are not alone and that there are others who constantly care about us. I would also like to invite you to keep coming back; you are always welcome here, and we truly appreciate your support,” he added.

The Laudato Si campaign at Don Bosco Kabuga Youth Centre is part of ongoing efforts by the Salesian Planning and Development Office through Don Bosco Youth Education for All (DBYEA) to promote integral ecology and youth education in line with Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ on care for our common home.
